NB: The assessment will be administered synchronously via Crowdmark. Students will be allocated 50 minutes, plus 5 additional minutes (gratia, charis) to complete the assessment at which time it will be submitted online. More detailed instructions for taking and submitting the assessments will be announced.
NB: Before each Interim Assessment two mini practice assessments will be offered via Crowdmark. Although optional, students are encouraged to complete them in order to reinforce the course material and gain experience using Crowdmark (to avoid any usage issues when using Crowdmark for the Interim and Final Assessments).

NB: RESEARCH PAPER (ESSAY) MUST BE BASED ON A PASSAGE OF NOT MORE THAN 500 WORDS TAKEN FROM AN ARTICLE IN A CURRENT ISSUE (i.e. AFTER October 2022) OF A REPUTABLE (i.e. in Robarts catalogue) SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL. A COPY OF THE PASSAGE, ON WHICH THE SELECTED WORDS HAVE BEEN MARKED, MUST BE SUPPLIED & DATE DOCUMENTED.
PROHIBITION: Please, NO essays on coronavirus or pandemics or related topics. There have been too many in earlier years.
The Essay will be an analysis and discussion of the etymology of 20 to 25 words selected by the student from this passage and marked on the supplied copy. TAs will answer questions, provide handout posted at course website for guidance, and offer several essay preparation classes.
